So our current production of The Trojan Women is going fabulously well! Rehearsals have started and are on-pointe Our cast and crew are starting to really gel - it is looking great.
However, unfortunately due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, we need a new incredible woman to play our ANDROMACHE. But we know there are so many amazing women out there who are looking for an opportunity to play such a strong, passionate role - and hopefully your diary is free for the run in October!
Please read the details attached and contact us here at Dionysus Theatre via the listing if you are interested.
Director, Emma Sproule, is looking forward to welcoming our new Andromache to the cast soon ... See MoreSee Less
This is a call for any talented sewers (that's those who are happy with haberdashery, not those who house human, well, you know...) out there that would love to lend a hand to our upcoming mainstage production, 'The Trojan Women'.
As you may know, our interpretation of the this ancient Greek tragedy has it set in the Golden Age of Hollywood - so the frocks are to die for! Hence needing a few more people to make them.
We are having a large working bee in a couple of weeks where all cast and crew will be present, so that the majority of sewing and set construction can occur at the same time, with lots of helping hands (relevant actors available constantly for fittings) and a delightful collegial atmosphere. A catered lunch will also be provided.
For further details and to let me know of your interest, please message me through this page. I would love to hear from you. Feel free to share the post and tag others if you think they too would be keen.

At Dionysus Theatre, we are very proud of each and every person who walks through our doors, whether they are cast, crew or creatives and we know just how incredibly talented each of them are and know that they will each go on to do great things in their chosen field.
It made us think, about those who have come into our company and created magic and have now gone on to crack it on the professional stage and are showing the wider world everything we already knew about them – how incredibly talented and amazing they are!
We are keen to do a ‘Where Are They Now’ segment every so often on our FB page, to remind all our friends and followers of the incredible talent they have seen on and off stage and to ‘big-up’ (& rightly so) those that are nailing it professionally.
Our first Dionysus Theatre family member who we’d like to highlight is:-
... Here are a few Questions we threw her way…. ..
1. How did you get involved with Dionysus Theatre?
Emma directed The Importance of Being Ernest at Beaumaris Theatre Company in 2011, in which I played Gwendolyn and my mother played Lady Bracknell. We formed a very special creative bond and then when Em went on to start DT she asked if I would be involved. .. 2. What was your first production with Dionysus Theatre?
I was involved with Exit the King (Dionysus Theatre’s first production). So I am proud to say I was present at the first founding meeting, and then went on to play Queen Marguerite for their very successful first run in 2012. I was also in Sock and Buskin at the end of 2016, the two shows being Abortive and Mother Figure. .. 3. What do you love about Dionysus Theatre?
The thing I think I love most about Dionysus Theatre is Emma's commitment to nurturing new and emerging talent. This is not just for young artists, but people whose passion for theatre may come forward at different times in their life. There is an incredibly strong feminist foundation to all the work in the company, which creates an incredibly important, safe space for women and men to nurture their creative side, experiment and play in an inclusive, equal environment. Areté in particular is a hugely important initiative for exactly those reasons, and as a platform for artists at all stages of their practice to be able to step into different roles and experience work they may not have the opportunity to otherwise. I think that's the thing I have to thank Emma for in particular - who else would have let me play Queen Marguerite at age 21? .. 4. What have you gone on to do since?
The year we did Exit the King was a bumpy one for me. I was actually pretty miserably trudging through a degree at Melbourne Uni, which I was failing, because I would sit up the back of lecture theatres with my script and go over lines for Exit The King (as I had with Ernest the year before). Naturally, I wanted to pursue acting full time, but hadn't yet had the confidence to do so. Exit The King was so well received, and Emma was so supportive of me as an actor, that I finally decided to start applying for drama schools. I did this both overseas and then at home, going on to do the preparatory course at the National Theatre in St Kilda, and then my Bachelor of Arts in Acting at Federation University Australia's Arts Academy (formerly BAPA). Since graduating in 2016, I have worked with The Australian Shakespeare a number of times as both an actor and an educator, I have had roles in three shows for the Melbourne Shakespeare Company, done a number of independent theatre and film projects, and am now beyond thrilled to be playing Hannah in the Australian cast of Puffs! This is an absolute dream come true, as I have always been a giant fan of the magic world! .. So what is this fabulous show Puffs all about?
“‘Hufflepuffs’ finally get their moment in HILARIOUS Potter play, ‘PUFFS’!!” declares Mashable. For seven years a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs… who just happened to be there too. A tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world. The play gives you a new look at a familiar adventure from the perspective of three new heroes just trying to make it through magic school.
Puffs has broken all Alex Theatre Box Office records and the season has been extended twice already! With sold out shows almost every night, this is without a doubt THE show to go and see this July/August!
